SECAC 2022 presentation in Baltimore

SECAC 2022 Annual Conference
October 26 – 29, 2022, Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel
Hosted by the Maryland Institute College of Art

SECAC (formerly the Southeastern College Art Conference) is a non-profit organization that promotes the study and practice of the visual arts in higher education on a national basis. SECAC facilitates cooperation and fosters on-going dialog about pertinent creative, scholarly and educational issues among teachers and administrators in universities, colleges, community colleges, professional art schools, and museums; and among independent artists and scholars.

On Saturday, October 29, I joined four other presenters during a session entitled Meaning and Making, one chaired by Kimberly Riner of Georgia Southern University.

With the presentation, Divergent Lines: Expanding Standards of Accomplishment for Undergraduate Drawing Students, I explored pedagogical approaches to cultivating spontaneous expression for drawing students. As well, I examined ways in which artists push boundaries for the definitions of drawing. Finally, I analyzed the application and administration of drawing methods and products outside the classroom, and how these activities shape perceptions of success.
